Breaking Glass Pictures will release “Cherri” the drama from director Fabián Suárez to audiences across North America on April 21.
The film will be available on all major streaming platforms.
The film tells the story of an aging, plus-size, and deeply romantic gay man in Havana whose yearning for connection leads him into a passionate but risky affair.
Portrayed by Cuban dancer and choreographer Juan Miguel Más, the film stars Noslen Sánchez, Roberto Díaz Gomar, Gabriela Griffith, Verónica Díaz, Héctor Téllez Jr., and Edith Massola.
Set in contemporary Havana, “Cherri” also reflects the wider social and emotional realities of life in Cuba today.
“I inhabit a country that grows lonelier, poorer, and sadder every day,” Suárez says. “The image of the empty house in the film, and of Cherri parting with his valuables, becomes a metaphor for a Cuba in agony. Cherri asks how to live with loneliness and brokenness. I ask myself that same question.”
An official selection at multiple international festivals, “Cherri” made its world premiere at the Miami International Film Festival and has screened at the Outshine LGBTQ+ Film Festival, the Havana Film Festival, and the International Film Festival of Kerala.
