3 Black Queers Embark On a Road Trip In ‘Dreams in Nightmares’

The official trailer for the indie drama “Dreams in Nightmares” has been released.

A spin on the classic American road movie, director Shatara Michelle Ford’s film follows three 30 something Black queers who set out on a road trip across the Midwestern United States in search of a missing friend.

Denée Benton, Sasha Compère, Charlie Barnett and Jasmin Savoy Brown star in the drama which marks Ford’s follow-up to their award-winning debut film “Test Pattern.”

The film recently premiered as the opening night selection at the BlackStar Film Festival. It previously screened at the Berlin International Film Festival, the British Film Institute, NewFest, Frameline, and the Champs-Élysées Film Festival.

“Dreams in Nightmares” is scheduled for a theatrical release in the United States on August 21, 2026 (New York) and August 28, 2026 (Los Angeles) via Lunette Films.
