Oscar winner Sean Penn has also been a vocal advocate for human rights and his latest project is call for global awareness and empathy on the war in Ukraine.

A feature anthology film created by Ukrainian filmmakers in response to Russia’s full scale invasion of Ukraine, “Animals in War” is anthology film inspired by true stories of animals affected by the war in Ukraine.
The film which consists of several independent novellas tells seven independent stories.

Through a range of styles war’s destruction comes into focus not through soldiers or battles, but through the animals caught in its wake. A white rabbit, a wolf, a cow and other creatures, both domestic and wild, become witnesses, companions, and sometimes the only reason to survive as cities empty, frontlines shift and the world is instantly reshaped by violence.

In the drama, war here is portrayed not as spectacle, but as a humanitarian and ecological catastrophe. Children forced to grow up overnight, adults living with loss, and people under occupation making impossible decisions all find themselves bound to animals under the pressure of conflict.
In English and Ukrainian with English Subtitles, the 98 minute drama which Penn worked on alongside a collaboration of Ukrainian and international artists, releases on VOD/Digital/FM+ on 6/26.
