‘Rocky’ Celebrates its 50th Anniversary

Fifty years ago, “Rocky,” a film about a struggling boxer who gets an unlikely, once-in-a-lifetime shot to fight the heavyweight champion was relased.

Made on a shoestring budget, the sports drama about an underdog defeating the odds defied Hollywood expectations to become a massive box office hit winning three Oscars at the 49th Academy Awards.

It’s theme song has become a pop-cultural phenomenon.

As “Rocky” turns 50 this year, its star Sylvester Stallone and musical director Bill Conti will reunite to celebrate the film’s legacy.

During a live pre-show conversation they will reflect on the making of the original film, its unforgettable score, and the friendship and creative collaboration that helped shape a cinematic phenomenon.

Academy Award-winning director Peter Farrelly and actor Anthony Ippolito will also make a special appearance to discuss Amazon MGM Studios’ upcoming film, “I Play Rocky,” which tells the true story of how a young Stallone fought to create and star in “Rocky.”

The new film revisits the remarkable story behind the creation of “Rocky,” introducing a new generation to the determination, ambition, and perseverance that brought the iconic underdog story to life.

The event will take place on Thursday, November 5, at Brooklyn’s historic Kings Theatre, as part of the Rocky in Concert tour, which will continue across the United States and internationally, bringing the film and its celebrated score to audiences around the world.
