Demetrius Grosse will star in FX’s “The Drop: A Snowfall Saga.”
Premiering on FX and Hulu, it continues John Singleton‘s “Snowfall,” the series about the crack epidemic in 1980s Los Angeles which starred British actor Damson Idris.
Set against the music of the 90s “The Drop” offers a nostalgic trip into a pivotal moment in L.A’s history—and for Grosse, whose career is expanding into music with his current album Uhuru, it’s a perfect intersection.
A D.C. native, his previous projects include Eric Williams in Marvel’s “Wonder Man,” “Straight Outta Compton,” Guillermo del Toro’s “Cabinet of Curiosities,” “Fear the Walking Dead,” “Lovecraft Country” and “Westworld.”
Grosse also played a security agent in “13 Hours,” a film about the events of September 11, when Islamic militants attacked the U.S. State Department Special Mission Compound.
Set in 1990s Los Angeles, the “Snowfall” spin-off follows Wanda Bell (Gail Bean) and Leon Simmons (Isaiah John) as they transition from the crack era into the rise of West Coast hip-hop and recreates ’90s Los Angeles and the era when West Coast hip-hop was reshaping music and culture
Grosse, who moves seamlessly between genres, is no stranger to the stage. His starring performance as Reverend W.C. Martin in “Sound of Hope: The Story of Possum Trot earned him the 2024 Septimius Award for Best American Actor.
He joins fellow recurring and regular cast members including Mykelti Williamson, Eric Balfour, and Brandon Mychal Smith in the series which premieres September 8 on FX and Hulu.
