Cultural Dramas To Screen At The African Diaspora International Film

The African Diaspora International Film Festival (ADIFF) is presenting the third offering of its Virtual Film Series, this month’s theme: Family Films.

Streaming July 10–19, 2026, the series brings together eight award-winning American and international films. They include “Breaking Boundaries,” “Brides” and director Michel Ocelot’s animated African folk tales drama.

Inspired by real events, “Brides” follows two British Muslim teenagers who embark on a journey across Europe toward the Syrian border and explores identity, friendship,

“Breaking Boundaries” is documentary that follows teenage rhythmic gymnast Nastasya Generalova as she pursues her Olympic dream in one of the world’s most demanding sports and the prejudice, setbacks she faces.

Spanning documentary, classic animation, coming-of-age dramas and thrillers, the films invite audiences to discover different cultures while exploring the values that help individuals and communities thrive.

These stories encourage empathy and include “Masai and the Rain Warriors” an adventure movie which follows a group of young warriors on a dangerous quest to save their village from a devastating drought.

The first feature-length animated film produced entirely in Cameroon, “Minga and the Broken Spoon” brings a beloved African folktale to life. After an orphaned girl accidentally breaks a precious spoon, she embarks on a magical journey through the forest to find its twin, discovering courage, friendship, and self-confidence along the way. Rich in African culture and imagination, the film celebrates resilience, kindness, and the belief that determination can overcome adversity.

Created to make exceptional cinema exploring the human experience of people of color accessible beyond the theater, the ADIFF Virtual Film Series presents curated online programs organized around themes that matter.

This Family Films edition celebrates intelligent, curious, and resilient young protagonists who confront real-world challenges with courage, compassion, creativity, and a strong sense of community.
