It’s a Star Studded Cast For The Esiri’s Latest Film

From David Oyelowo, Ayo Edebiri to Sophie Okonedo, the second feature film from Nigerian twin brothers Arie and Chuko boasts an impressive cast.

The film, starring Sophie Okonedo, David Oyelowo, India Amarteifio and Ayo Edebiri, played to wide acclaim at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, only the second Nigerian film ever selected

“Clarissa” had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in the Directors’ Fortnight section. It became the second Nigerian feature selected in the history of the Festival.  

Directed by Arie and Chuko and written by Chuko, the film is shot entirely in Nigeria and follows Clarissa (Okonedo) as she prepares to host a party at her home in Lagos, Nigeria, when she unexpectedly encounters guests from her past.

“Clarissa” explore themes of identity, inequality and history and has been praised by critics at Cannes, including New York Times’ film critic Manohla Dargis who wrote “the movie counts as one of the few genuine discoveries” and “was one of the most exciting movies playing during the Cannes Film Festival.”

Known for their strong casting choices and writing, “Eyimofe “(This Is My Desire), Esiri’s feature film, received several African Movie Academy Awards.

The ensemble also includes Toheeb Jimoh, Fortune Nwafor, Nikki Amuka-Bird, Jude Akuwudike, Danny Sapani, Modesinuola Ogundiwin, Chuks Joseph, Kehinde Cardoso, Jable Osai, and Joke Silva.  

“Clarissa” will open in select theaters on December 11.
