His first feature “Mami Wata” was considered for an Oscar which speaks to filmmaker C.J. Obasi’s talent.

The film was Nigeria’s entry for Best International Feature Film at the 96th Academy Awards and landed Independent Spirit and NAACP Image Award nominations.
The Nigerian director is back with “A Blue Butterfly,” his first feature since “Mami Wata,” and announced the cast of the project on his X account.
Set in London and Rwanda, Steve Toussaint (“House of the Dragon”) Sanaa Lathan (Love & Basketball) and Lucien Msamati (“Conclave“) Anton Lesser (“Andor”) star in the film which is described as character-driven, with a plot focused on “exploring survivor’s guilt, redemption, and the impossibility of self-forgiveness.”
