Nkechi Okoro Carroll: ‘Everyone Deserves The Right To Pursue Their Dream’


She is one of Hollywood’s most powerful Black women.

A television showrunner, executive producer, and writer, Nkechi Okoro Caroll is known for creating and running several successful drama series.

In an episode of NAACP+ Inside the Industry, host Ariana Drummond talked to the Nigerian native who spent 14 years in corporate America before embarking on a career in television.

From her entry level roles, rejection in Hollywood to writing and producing for “Bones, ” “Rosewood,” and The Resident,” she talks about her transition from theater to film and television.

“While I was working at the Federal Reserve, I watched everything under the sun.” says Okoro Carroll, the showrunner and creator behind “All American” and “All American:Homecoming,” the series which follows a rising high school football player from South L.A. who is recruited to play for Beverly Hills High.

With projects in developments that include a coming of age story, her advice to anyone seeking a career in television is to persevere.

“Do not give up. Everyone deserves the right to pursue their dream. There is a path for everyone.”
