Laverne Cox to Host BET’s Black + Iconic Soirée

Emmy-nominated actress Laverne Cox will serve as host for this year’s BET Black + Iconic Soirée.

Set to take place on Saturday, May 23 in Maryland, the annual event which celebrates Black and LGBTQ+ communities, will feature an awards dinner and a performance from Grammy-nominated singer and songwriter Tweet.

The Black + Iconic Soirée honors and highlights individuals whose work continues to shape culture, advance equity, and uplift the Black LGBTQ+ community and will be a pre-taped streaming experience. 

Cox  is an actress, producer, and LGBTQ+ advocate best known for her role as Sophia Burset on the Netflix series “Orange Is the New Black.”

She plays a lawyer in the Apple comedy “Outcome.”
