Photographer Jerry Taliaferro is celebrating African American womanhood through black-and-white portraits styled in the glamour of Hollywood’s Golden Age.
“Black Woman as Muse” is a collection of photographs, produced over the course of decades explores the beauty of African American women through stylized black and white images.

The subjects are Black Women who inhabit the day-to-day lives of most Americans. They are our mothers, sisters, daughters, friends, and coworkers.
Rarely has the American woman of African descent been so gloriously portrayed. Every page is an emotional experience.
The collection features 40 meticulously crafted portraits of everyday women from all walks of life—mothers, daughters, friends, and coworkers. It captures Taliaferro’s personal odyssey to glorify and elevate the perception of Black women in America
54 year old Taliaferro believes that great images are “built” not merely taken and his photography has been greatly influenced by his life experiences. His background in photography includes work as a commercial photographer and his work has been exhibited widely including two exhibitions in Europe sponsored by the United States Department of State.
