Movie tastes are certainly subjective, just ask a collection of folks which is exactly what New York Times did when they asked 500 filmmakers, stars and influential film fans to vote for the 10 best movies released since Jan. 1, 2000.
Voters included Oscar-winning directors Pedro Almodóvar, Sofia Coppola, Barry Jenkins and Guillermo del Toro, as well as Oscar wining actors Chiwetel Ejiofor and Mikey Madison, John Turturro and Julianne Moore.
Mostly Oscar nominated dramas made the list with films “City of God” and “Get Out” which launched the film directing, writing, and producing career of Jordan Peele. As the writer-director, Peele became the first Black filmmaker to win an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay, establishing him as a prominent horror genre director.
