It’s been almost ten years since Meagan Good made her feature debut in “Eve’s Bayou” playing the demure teenage of an affluent southern family dealing with issues of infidelity and incest, a breakthrough role which earned her an NAACP Image Award nomination. Fast forward to present day and she’s made good on that talent, returning in another leading role in the movie “Waist Deep,” an urban Bonnie and Clyde flick which co stars Tyrese.
Directed by Vondie Curtis Hall who Good worked with in “Eve’s Bayou,” she plays a Coco, a pretty street hustler who teams up with an ex-convict after his son is kidnapped. “I’ve played pretty girls a lot,” Meagan says, “but I’ve never played someone like the character Coco. She’s been through a lot, things I haven’t been through. So this meant getting to play a character with a lot more meat to her than usual. I also enjoyed the idea of getting to do action scenes and car chases – really exciting.”
With an impressive resume which lists movies such as “Roll Bounce,” “The Cookout,” “D.E.B.S.,” “You Got Served,” Biker Boyz” and several guest appearances on “Kevin Hill,” “My Wife and Kids” and numerous commercials, Meagan lacks the conceited attitude one would expect from a rising starlet. “I’ve been doing commercials since I was 4 years old and as an actress, I have been able to evolve but stay humble because I started off playing kid roles and was able to find my niche. In “Eve’s Bayou” my character was very different, I played this young girl who was very insecure and her family is into voodoo and she wasn’t hot at all and then with Coco [character in “Waist Deep”] and then with “Miles from Home” the movie that I produced. I credit my mum and my sister with keeping me grounded and being supportive throughout my career. ”
[I told my mum that she need to develop a thick skin, cause if I see her hurt it’s going to hurt me more.”]
Although her sister LaMyia is part of a singing group, Meagan has no plans to follow the musical route, but enjoys listening to Beyonce, Keyshia Cole, who she says is also a close friend, Whitesnake and Pat Benatar. “On the set in-between scenes I would listen to Beyonce and try to emulate her in the mirror.” She laughs. Good can be seen next in the movie “Steppin” and also “Fast Girl” where she plays a college student. “It’s based on a true story about a girl track team in college and is loosely based on a coach who was a big track runner that kinda lost his career and it’s like his comeback.”
Currently single although she has been romantically linked to artists like 50 Cent and Jamie Foxx, the petite actress is quick to set the record straight. “I am not dating right now and just got out of a two year relationship four months ago. I am just kind chilling right now and focusing on being by myself. I feel like God’s timing is the perfect timing and right now he intends for me to single. In regards to the rumors, I’ve know Jamie since I was 18 and the pictures with him was a random thing. He was just being funny going in for a peck and if you see it, it’s a series of pictures and I‘m like throwing my head back and laughing and looking at him like he’s crazy, but of course that is not the picture they show, they show the moment of contact when I am hugging him goodbye. Dealing with malicious rumors and idle gossip may go with the fame territory but Meagan claims to take it all in stride.

“For me, I just started experiencing it now [gossip] as people get more familiar with me. Some people may say I did sign up for it and it comes with the territory but it doesn’t change my feelings and my being hurt. There was a time when it hurt so much more. Now I am much different and if you talk about people to me, whether it’s Britney, Lindsay Lohan or Christina Milian. I am getting in your ass because you don’t know what goes on in that persons life and you have no idea how much pressure and pain you add to their lives just by having assumptions and opinions that has nothing to do with you. That is the least attractive thing that comes with being in the industry.
Despite these occasional nuances, Meagan claims her life is pretty normal. “When I am not working I just lounge in my pajamas and go to the Coffee Bean or just drive over the Canyon and listen to music and relax or I stay at home and hangout with my roommate. On any given day you will find me at the movies. I like to watch movies and really like watching old movies. Some of my favorite actors are Halle Berry, Angela Bassett, Charlize Theron and Kevin Spacey it would be a dream to work with any of them.”
