The Grammy-winning singer, rapper and songwriter Ms. Lauryn Hill will receive the iconic Living Legend Icon Award.

A special award of merit, it honors pioneers who mastered their craft.
Hill who captured the world’s attention as a member of The Fugees in 1996 topped the charts with songs like “Killing Me Softly” and “Ready or Not” making them into generational anthems. The solo album “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill,” released in in 1998 was immediately recognized as a masterpiece and went on to sell more than ten million copies.
Decades later, her catalog has been sampled, and sung back word for word, and is an inspiration for a generation of artists.
Hill has been active building unity, resilience and cultural exchange among African descendant communities worldwide and in 2016 launched “Diaspora Calling!” as a music and art initiative to celebrate the culture and shared histories of the African diaspora.
The Living Legend Icon Award sponsored by Sprite will be presented to Hill at the 2026 “BET Awards” and will broadcast live on Sunday, June 28 at 8 PM ET/PT, from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.
