John Legend and Tyrese Gibson Honored At The Triumph Awards

Actor and singer Tyrese Gibson and musician John Legend received top honors at the annual Triumph Awards‏.

Presented by Reverend Al Sharpton, National Action Network (NAN) and TV One, and hosted by actress Tichina Arnold, the event, which was filmed in Atlanta, recognizes the impact its honorees have made on our society.

Gibson received the Entertainer of the Year honor by Martin Luther King III and Legend was presented with the President’s Award for Service for his work as a vocal champion for social justice.

Some of the other honorees included Rev. Dr. Joseph Echols Lowery, (civil rights leader, activist and minister) who received the Chairman’s Award. Emmy winning comedienne, actress and producer Wanda Sykes was presented with the Activism in the Arts honor and the Global Director of Education and External Relations for Intel, Rosalind Hudnell, was presented the honor of Corporate Executive of the Year in support of her distinguished leadership within the corporate sector.

Presenters included Afemo Omilami, Darrin Henson, Donnie Simpson, Nicole Beharie, Soledad O’Brien, Syleena Johnson, “Blackbird” film director Patrik-Ian Polk and Terri J. Vaughn.

Tyrese, Tasha Cobbs, Estelle, Jazmine Sullivan, Ledisi, Chante Moore, Stokley Williams and the Youth Ensemble of Atlanta and award winning hip-hop artist, T.I. all performed.

The 2015 Triumph Awards will air on Saturday, October 3 at 8PM/ET on TV One.
